The Pawnee Chief

BILLY GENE WILLIAMS, 71, passed away in the Ft. Mead, S.D. Veterans Medical Center on August 23, 2003, and funeral services were held on August 27.
He was born on July 19, 1932, in Skedee to Alfred Edward Williams and Sarah Ellen (Bryant) Williams and he attended and graduated from Pawnee High
School in 1950 then joined the U.S. Navy.
He served aboard the USS Sioux during the winter of 1954 and took part in Operation Castle in the Marshall Island at Eniwetok during the atomic bomb
test and received his honorable discharge in 1955.
On returning home, he worked in the oil fields and then moved to Hemingford, Nebr. where he met and married Phyllis Bowser. They were married on April
23, 1956 in Hemmingford. They farmed for a short time before moving to Rapid City, S.D. where he worked in a service station and as a heavy equipment
mechanic. He was also a policeman for the city for 5 years then he worked for the South Dakota Cement Plant until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreigh Wars.
Surviving is his wife, Phyllis of the home in Rapid City and 3 duaghters: Jodie Blankenship and her husband Doug and their son Zackery, Skatook, Okla;
Sara Stroud and her husband Dale II and their children Dale III and Bret, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Billie Beardon and her husband Peter and their children
Veronica and Mason of Rapid City, S.D.
Also a brother, Tommy Williams of Glencoe/Morrison and his wife Sandy, plus 7 sisters: Arlene Drain and husband Gene, Edmond; Charlene Kimmell and
husband Grover of Odessa, Texas; Lola Collins and her husband, Marvin, Oklahoma City; Linda Shipley, Edmond; Judy Walker and husband, Otis, and Janie
Williams all of Crescent, Okla. and Peggy Reddick and husband, David of Lindsay, Okla. and a number of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparentss and a grandson.
Funeral services were held on August 27, 2003, at Rapid City with burial in the Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis, S.D.
