The Pawnee Chief

    WILLIAM P. “BILL” MCKENZIE, 54, passed away at a Bartlesville hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, and funeral services were held in Pawhuska on 
Friday and interment in Pawnee’s Highland Cemetery.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1948, to Max Leroy McKenzie and Ella Lou (Bywater) McKenzie and lived in Pawnee as a youth but the family moved to Hominy
where his father was employed and he graduated from the Hominy High School in 1967.
Bill and Cathy Kay Allison of Hominy were married in Hominy on August 25, 1969. They moved to Pawhuska in 1970 where he became head football coach
from 1970 to 1973. He worked for the Osage County Housing Authority for several years. After the opening of the Dick Connor Correctional Center in
Hominy, he went to work for the Department of Corrections. At the time of his death he was a special investigator for the DOC.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and of the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska where he was an elder.
An avid Pawhuska Huskie football fan, for several years he was the voice of the Huskie Football, announcing home football games. He was Master of
Ceremonies every year for the Pawhuska Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. He had been active with the Drama and Speech departments of
the Pawhuska High School, working beside Carla in presenting plays for the school and community. He was also instrumental in forming drama clubs at the
school and community.
It was agreed with all who knew Bill that his heart was as big as the man himself.
Surviving are his wife, Carla McKenzie of the home in Pawhuska and 2 children: Allison McKenzie, Tulsa and Max Leo MeKenzie of Norman, Okla. plus his
mother, Ella McKenzie of Hominy, and a brother and sister: Larry McKenzie and wife Tonya of Wichita, Kans. and Elaine McKenzie of Miami, Okla. plus a
number of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Leroy McKenzie.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church wit the Rev. Judy Henderson officiating. Interment
followed at Pawnee’s Highland Cemetery under direction of McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home of Pawhuska.
