City Girl Second Victim of Crash
A car - truck collision Wednesday night near Bristow claimed the second
member of a Sapulpa family Friday night, a nine year old girl.
Dead is Judy Ann Mitchell, whose mother, Mrs. Billie Irene
Reed, also was
killed in the same accident.
Judy, who would have been a fourth grader this year at Forest Park School,
died late Friday night in St. John's Hospital, Tulsa, from head injuries.
Another child, Raymond Eugene Mitchell, 4, still was listed in critical
condition Saturday morning. Sources said the youth had not regained
consciousness Saturday. In addition to a head injury, he also sustained a broken
leg and a broken jaw.
A third child, two year old, Brenda Mitchell was reported much improved and
has been taken off the critical list. She suffered head injuries and both her
legs were broken.
The victims were in a car operated by Fred N. Reed, whom Mrs. Reed had wed
less than two weeks before the accident.
Highway Patrolman Charles Page said Reed's vehicle, which was rushing Judy to
the Bristow hospital after she became ill at relatives home in Stroud, ran
under the trailer of a truck driven by Jimmy L. Jackson, Tulsa.
No charges have been filed in the accident as of Saturday.
In addition to the brother and sister who were hospitalized, Judy Ann is
survived by another brother, Gary Michael, 6, of the home at 723 S. Linden; her
father, William D. Mitchell, Kiefer; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Davis
Mitchell, Kiefer; and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Friend, 619 E. Lee, Sapulpa.
Final rites are pending with Harrison Funeral Home.
