Fred L. Patrick, prominent Sapulpa attorney and one of the city's best-known citizens, died Wednesday morning at Bartlett Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Patrick, 81, had long been active in school, church and civil affairs of Sapulpa and still maintained his law office in the Security Building.
Patrick served as mayor of Sapulpa from 1948-1950, vice-mayor from 1950 to 1952 and was on the city commission ten years from 1946 to 1956.
His support to schools and their various projects was legendary and last February he was honored by the PTA Council at its Founder's Day program. Patrick was founder of Sapulpa's first PTA in 1913.
Patrick was born April 6, 1889 at Adele, Ky, and was married to the former Anna Mae Weatherington, on May 5, 1908 at Wolfe, Okla., where he was teaching school. They had lived in their home at 1302 E. University 52 years.
Teaching school 11 years, Patrick had been an early day cowboy and was a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He served as superintendent of schools in Depew and opened his law office here in 1935. He had considerable business in oil and leasing.
An elder in the First Christian Church he taught the Berean Class for many years and was a member of the choir.
He served five terms as worthy patron of Radiant Chapter, Eastern Star, was a member of Euchee Masonic Lodge 524, Akdar Shine and the McAlester consistory.
Among his other activities were Sapulpa Elks Lodge, IOOF, K.P., Sapulpa Round-Up Club, Creek County Bar Association, Lions Club, Salvation Army board, and the Farmers Union.
Survivors are his wife, Anna, of the home; two sons, Earl F. Patrick of Shawnee, Clyde Patrick, Sapulpa; one daughter, Mrs. Volita Metcalf, Winston, Salem, NC; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two brothers, Brice Patrick, DeQueen, Ark.; Clarence Patrick, Mounds, a sister, Mrs. Gertie Preston Sample, Woodland Park, Col.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Friday at First Christian Church with Bill Howard officiating. Interment will in
South Heights Cemetery.
Lions Club and bar association will be honorary pall bearers.
