D. Cheryl Shahan, a long-time resident of Choctaw, went to
meet the Lord on December 17, 2005, after a lengthy illness.
Born to Robert Pierce and Laura Silkwood in Bristow, Oklahoma on
September 19, 1945. She graduated from Midwest City High school
in 1963 and later met and married Sam Shahan, the love of her
life, on September 14, 1968. Cheryl worked for Oklahoma
Department of Transportation for 33 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother Laura, father Ray Silkwood, brother Kelly Silkwood and father-in-law Lawrence
Shahan.
Cheryl leaves behind her loving husband, Sam of the home,
daughter Sammie of Choctaw, Whitney and husband Jake Bender of
Shawnee, and daughter Ashley and Eddie Barrett of Wylie, Texas.
She was affectionately called "Granny" by her grandchildren
Cassidy, Sierra, Cord and Cora.
Cheryl is also survived by her father Robert Pierce and wife
Joyce, and brother Kevin Silkwood and wife Kim; nephew Kaleb and
niece Kylie and family as well as mother-in-law Lora Shahan and
sister-in-law Deena Palmer and husband Orville. She also leaves
behind many much loved family members and close friends. Cheryl
was known by many as the "Pig Lady" because of her great love of
pigs. She loved OU football as well as crossword puzzles and
playing bingo. Cheryl recently accepted the Lord as her savior.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have
kept the faith."
Services to be at Douglas Boulevard United Methodist Church
in Midwest City on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 2 p.m., under
the direction of Hibbs Funeral Home. Interment to follow at
Elmwood
Cemetery in Choctaw. Those who wish may donate to the
American Cancer Society or Odyssey Healthcare in Cheryl's honor.
