Mrs. Mittie Goyer Wallace. 1900-1992, died on November 19, 1992. Mrs. Wallace, widow of Pollock (Polly) A. Wallace, died in the Norman Hospital after a lengthy illness, and a long and productive life as an educator and civic leader in the central Oklahoma area. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her sister, Mrs. Beatrice Clodfelter, Irving, Texas, and three nephews, Mr. J. C. Goyer of Luther, Oklahoma, Dr. C. Ronald Clodfelter, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Mr. Don Goyer , Harrah, Oklahoma, and a niece, Dr. Cherie Clodfelter, Irving, Texas.

Mrs. Wallace was the daughter of James W. Goyer and Florence Rachael Goyer. Mr. Goyer participated in the run into Oklahoma Territory in 1889. Mr. Goyer and his family lived on the homestead that he staked-out near the present Jones, Oklahoma. Mrs. Wallace began her teaching career at the State Center rural school when she was eighteen years old. She later taught in Luther, Oklahoma and in Oklahoma City. She taught grammar and handwriting at Central High School in the City where she later headed the English Department. Mrs. Wallace was the first penmanships supervisor for the State of Oklahoma. She and her husband, Polly Wallace, a geologist, and the first All-American football player at Oklahoma University, contributed to the civic life of Oklahoma City and Norman.

"Aunt Mittie was the original Auntie Mame," said her niece Dr. Clodfelter. "She met no problem or issue half-way. She was a model for all women, in the past, now, and in the future. Her legacy is one of all dreams can be fulfilled through one's determination and tenacity."

Mrs. Wallace was a graduate of Central State Teacher's College (Oklahoma Central University) Edmond, Oklahoma, with both an undergraduate and a graduate degree in literature (English) and education.

A memorial service will be held at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Spencer, Oklahoma, on Monday, November 23, 1992 at 1:00 PM to celebrate the life of Mittie Goyer Wallace. In lieu of flowers, donate to one's favorite charity.
