About Us
OKCHOCTA is the official website for the Choctaw County OKGenWeb.
In 2001, Ron Henson launched a website dedicated to free Choctaw County genealogical information. As County Coordinator he built the site from the ground up, gathering Choctaw County information and photographs and posting them to the site. Soon contributors started sending information, photos and documents and before long, OKCHOCTA became an award winning site.
After 15 years of dedication and hard work, at the end of February 2016 he passed the mantel on to his cousin and fellow genealogist, April Makerney.
As the current County Coordinator, April, along with her collegues, Billie Heath, Cindy Burkhalter and Sydney Groat launched the brand new modernized OKCHOCTA you see here in October 2016. The new OKCHOCTA team is dedicated to continuing to provide Choctaw County genealogical and historical information for many years to come.
