GORDON/WELCH   621

Query posted by Gordon, Laurie L. on July 19, 2004 for , GORDON, WELCH

I am researching "Jack" Gordon who lived in Bluejacket for 30 years (approx. 1871-1901), John F. (JACK) GORDON. In 1870 he traveled with his mother (Caroline Welch Gordon), father (Charlie Gordon) and aunt( Betsy Hair) from Tenn. to Bluejacket. His father & aunt drowned while crossing the frozen Mississippi river at St. Louis. His mother continued on to Bluejacket, where she traded 3 cows for a sod house circa 1871. Jack's Oldest son William L. Gordon was born in Vanita in Sept. 1894. Information is from the Indian Pioneer Papers

Re: location of stone   623A

Book"s Information posted by Mosherfam on August 03, 2004

According to the Ketchum cemetery book (by Mary Oakley and Connie Schofield), you'll find George Coverdell in Row 7, of the west center section. That should be between the center gate and the west gate. There's a stone for a Coverdell baby there also. Other names nearby in that row are Morrison, Hinds, and Washburn.

Sturdivant Nursing Home--Vinita   624

Query posted by R, Katielyn on August 13, 2004

Is the Sturdivant Nursing Home still in operation? I was unable to get a listing. If it is not would someone know what could have happened to the records. I had a g-uncle die in 1966 who was living here at the time of his death. His name was Jerome "Bailey" Rogers. The nursing home was the informant on his death certificate and it seems Craig Co may have paid for his burial. He was the "baby" of the Rogers family and out lived his siblings. He never married and I'd like to learn more about him. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: vinita, oklahoma families,Robinson, Culler, Collins, Cox, Davis, Hold   625

Query posted by Jord, Terri F on August 21, 2004 for COX

I have a Frank Cox in my family who lived in Vinita, I don't have a wife or death date on him so I can't verify that but he was born in Decatur, Macon, Illinois to Aaron Cox & Sarah Clark. They both died there the odds are good that he stayed in that area. Frank has some nieces, my direct line, who were born in Vinita as well. Hope this helps.

Re: Fairview Cemetery Lookup   646B

Query posted by Carol on August 24, 2004 for , LOVE, HOPPER, MOORE, WALTERS, ADAMS

Kathy,
Sorry to hear there is no marker. As of 1995 there were over 5,000 people buried in Fairview and a lot of them don't have markers, including some of mine. I do have a picture of the entrance to the cemetery that shows the driveway and the brick arch with the sign of Fairview Cemetery at the top. Would work for some kind of record for him along with the lot and space number of the grave. If you are interested, let me know and I will e-mail it to you. Wish I could have been more help...
Carol

Re: Fairview Cemetery Lookup   646C

Query posted by R, Katielyn on August 24, 2004

Thanks, Carol, I would like that. The man at the cemetery was nice enough to go out and check the space. I'm wondering if "single row" was for people who didn't have the money for burial. ( Bailey was space 333) The way I was understanding it was they were buried along the row as they came in. Do you know anything about that?
