I can verify the existence of Carselowey (correct spelling) Cemetery as I attended burials of family members there as a child and recall cleaning the grounds (probably around Memorial Day). It is located near the "Carselowey School" which, I believe, was also used as a church at times, and is near the "Carselowey Community." I am the granddaughter of Charles Victor Carselowey II and grand niece of James Carselowey. The family was granted this land in the Vinita, Afton, Grove area when Oklahoma became a state and Indian Territory was dissolved. I believe my grandparents (C.V. and Della nee Sloan) taught school there or nearby. Some oral history reports have been posted by Susie Carselowey Duncan (married to Red Cloud Duncan) which I found by entering the word "Carselowey" in NBC.COM SEARCH.

Searching for date of death or obit for L.D (LORANZO DOW) THOMAS. He was born July 17, 1834. I have an old 1929 newspaper clipping from unknown newspaper in Craig County that states he was living in Vinita with his daughter and son inlaw, Mr. and Mrs. S.D. FUNDERBURKE at 709 W. Illinois St. in Vinita. He was celebrating his 95th birthday and was quite ill at that time. I suspect he died that same year seeing as his health was failing at the time the article was written. Thanks for any help.

Vanessa----Just last night I copied the Cherokee Freedman application of Lone Landrum, for himself and his wife Cherry, and children George (incarcerated at Lansing), Jesse, Minnie, Reed, and Pearl. Cherry is buried in the cemetery of the Four Mile Branch Baptist Church, east of Fort Gibson, Muskogee County, Okla. Other names on your list associated with the Four Mile Branch are: NAVE, STARR, VANN, WARD, and WHITMIRE. I'm researching, specifically, STARR, MAYFIELD, MCNAC, NEVINS, IRONS, NERO, MILLER, WILSON, JONES, AND OTHERS. All these families are associated with the Four Mile Branch, Muskogee County, Okla. area. Hope this is helpful. E-mail me if you want to explore further. Preston.

Family lore is that she divorced Hiram and married a man namd Jarvis and is buried in Bluejacket. There is no proof that she remarried. Her birthdate would be about 1875, she died as far as we know about 1923. I am wondering if any one knows of her or her family? Thanks Kay Towner

Have an article from the Indian Chieftain that reads: Miss Butler, a niece of Bear Timpson died on Monday the 10th and was buried the following day. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.N. The picture was taken in Estella, OK., Craig Co. There is a note written on it that says, "My Dad where I was raised.' I wish that she had wrote her name. Any way I have being searching for kin to give it too. I bought this picture in McAlester OK., Pittsburg Co. There is no year or date on the picture. Since you are asking for information about a C. Deal, I wanted to contact you. I have no other information about the family. There might be a connection to your family. I'm not kin. Mary

Preston, Thank you for responding. I am very excited about the information you have and would love to get copies of Lone's and Cherry's application if possible. I will pay postage and copying costs. Are you related to Lone and Cherry? If so how. I believe one of Lone's parents is related to either Arch or Winnie Landrum. Arch and Winnie are the 4th great-grandparents of my son (through his biological father, that is). Cherry's parents were Jordan and Delilah Thompson. How can I get detailed information re: the names that are associated with Four Mile Branch? (i.e. NAVE, STARR, VANN, WARD, WHITMIRE). I have no doubt that we are researching the same families.

If your grandmother was the Eva Landrum that was raised by John and Mary Landrum, then, my son is related to her. I have work out the connection again, though. Was Eva's father's first name Andy? What was Mr. Wright's first name? Is the horse story word of mouth or do you have documentation? Who did Eva marry? Where did they live? I 'm excited about your information! Thank you for your response.

Oh boy!! This is a surprise. Yes Andy was Eva's father. Her mother Ella(ellie) was expecting Eva when Andy was killed. No the horse story is from the Vinita Indian Chieftain Weekly, published Thursday October 15,1896. However, family members have other versions I did not know that Mary and John raised Eva. Oh yes, Mr Wright's name was Araon . I will try to scan the letter I have from Vinita (actuall it belongs to my cousin Tony) and send you a copy. Grandmother Eva was married to my grandfather Fred Douglass Hubbard, grandfather passed away in 1937, Eva then married Asa Downing , she and Daddy Ace were married until Eva passed away in 1960. Daddy Ace passed away in Independance, Ks approx. 1976. I'm hoping there are the people you're looking for.

Vanessa, This is so exciting. After two years of searching, I,ve finally made a contact. Yes, Eva had a brother Lonnie and I understand that he moved to California at an early age. There are a few people still living in Oklahoma that knew the Landrums (Most of them are in their late 80's & 90's). I am hoping to see some of them in the next 2-3 months and possibly have more information about the family. Most of the family from my father's generation back have passed on but I have a host of cousins and one aunt still living (Eva's children). If you care to continue to communicate send me an e-mail at the above address or Ramlui@aol.com and I will be in touch.
