Vinita County Jail record in 1930 914
|
Query posted by Rayandsue on July 14, 2007
for THOMAS

I am searching for county jail record in 1930 for a Virgil Thomas. He is a prisoner in 1930 there, but want more information why he is in jail, Virgil was born in MO. He must have been disowned pretty much by his family as no ever spoke of him . I found him in census records with the family and am curious. The census of him in jail states that he is married. Can anyone find out a jail record from 1930 for me? I would greatly appreciate this. Thanks in advance. Susan

Hello Steve, George Landrum was my great-great grandfather, I hadn't ran across any information about the Four Mile Branch Missionary Baptist Church members and the cemetary. I'm trying to find the roll numbers for George Landrum, Caroline Daniels his wife.

Hello, If you follow the link within this note, you will get to a webpage where you can search for marriage, divorce and probate records online for Oklahoma counties. I am not sure about all of the counties, but CRAIG county has marriages, divorces, etc. dating from circa statehood to the current time seems like.

Thank you, the person's email you gave me is my Uncle, my dad's brother. I've been sending him emails at this address but it bounces back as a bad address. I'll try again and if it comes back I'll contact me brother to see if he has a valid address.

Hello, I have to make one comment of correction in reply to your response.... Vinita is still alive and well and growing, but I know what you are probably talking about is the old two-storied Negro Hotel in the 200 block of South First Street. At one time, I believe that the Negro doctor was working out of that building in the 1930s giving care to both black and white patients, because my maternal white grandmother, Gertie (Taylor) Swift was one of the patients. Vinita has a new generation of people who are working to bring the spirit and life of NEW growth to Vinita that was kept under guard in the early years by the ranchers, etc and others who did not want industrial businesses there. I am proud of you, VINITA! Eddene Hightower Thompson

Hello, My late husband, Newt Thompson and I both went to highschool with the Jones boys in Vinita in the 1950s. Ernie (Ernest) was in my grade (graduated 1961); Wayne was a couple of years older. I believe Carl was the other one. I don't know about any Jones 'girls'. My husband and I lived near Broken Arrow, Ok in the Camino Villa mobile home village from 1967 to 1970 and Susie and Wayne Jones were living there, too. They lived just a block in from the entrance on the left side of the road. But, I believe that they divorced while they were there. We moved to Edwardsville, Kansas in Dec 1970 and lost track of them after that. I don't have any of the Elsey family in my family tree database, but we were acquainted with all of them, too. I don't know if I have anything on the Jones boys' family tree or not. My family locally consisted of two younger sisters and one brother who have mainly stayed around Vinita. I am willing to share whatever info I have with those of you that are interested. Here is the link to my FreePages at Rootsweb where I have 7 volumes of obits scrapbooks gathered from the local newspaper by my mother, Eunice (Swift) Hightower over the years. There is also an index to a book of weddings and one for anniversaries from same source. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~eddene/

Eddene I went to school with your sister, Frances, and I kenw your brother Ross and sister Lavon and yoyr mother. There were nine children (5 boys & 4 girls) in our family and for several years we lived on First Steet. We moved from Vinita in June 1976 to Muskogee (I guess I should say that mom and Glenda moved, since I didn't join them until my military discharge in March 1977). Your mother would probably remember my father, Silas E. 'Cotton' Jones with City Cab until his death in 1960. My nephew Karl D. Jones (Carl's son) is an attorney there in Vinita. Curtis (you knew his as Wayne) apassed away Nov 12, 2001, and is buried with mom and dad at Fairview. Ernie now lives in tha same place sue and Curt lived at Camino Villa. My sister are Glenda, Eileen, & Georgia and Sandra (dec'd). In the near future, I would like to get with you and obtain copies of your obituaries. I have our family tree on my computer and I have more that 400,000 names (uncluding the Hightowers)...............Silas

Silas, I can't say for sure if this is the Frances Elsey that I was friends with in the mid 50's. If she lived in Imperial Beach, California and went to school there it is her. We kept intouch for a while when they moved to Vinita, Ok, but then lost touch as we got older. I would love to know if it is her though.

Silas, read your message to Eddene and wondered where Glenda is living now. We are having our 40th high school reunion Sept 14 & 15 in Vinita. I would sure love to see her. I am married to Mike Lewis class of 1968 and live in Vinita, but if you have the Hightower family tree, you probably already know that. Ha! Ha!
