How can I get information about an ancestor who was treated in an ODMHSAS hospital decades ago, for use in my genealogical research?

Very interesting. My gg grandfather, Richard Pettit, passed away here in 1932. I am not sure of the details of his commitment but I do know he was alcholic. He was a Cherokee. My great grandmother's sister tried to get records about him in the 1960s, even then they wouldn't give them to her. I will have to find the letter she received. I am going to attempt to find some records myself but it sounds like it will be difficult.

My grandmother died in Eastern Oklahoma state hospital in 1919. I wAS able to get a death certicate for her from the State Archives because she died in a hospital.

I, too,have called and left messages. No luck. My grandmother was placed there in 1943 for ten days - she also died there. She was only 43 years old. cause of death listed: exhaustion, manic depressive psychosis. Not sure how she died of that...... family story is that she became combative and was kicked by an orderly in the stomach and died of this injury. Not sure if it is true or not. More believable then exhaustion though. I got a copy of her death certificate from the funeral home in Nowata that handled her funeral arrangements.
