No, I am not directly related. I am a researcher fp\or the Tadlock family. I do, however explore the lines of adjacent families as they enter into the Tadlock lineage via marriage.

Shutting down of Old VHS   736L

Query posted by Thompson, Eddene Hightower on September 10, 2005

Hello, I was in the graduating class of 1961... In my junior year we had a voting to see if we wanted to be the LAST graduating class of the old building or the FIRST in the new building across the tracks to the north of the old building. I have no idea how close the contest was--but much to my dismay, as well as many others I always assumed-- we were to go over to the new highschool. I was newly married, having married in April 1960, my junior year to a 1958-graduate-Newt Thompson, and I didn't pay attention or don't remember now if the school was used after 1960 or not. By the way, Newt and I are still married 45 years later.
Was the old school building used after 1960?

Hello, That is very possible that the school was used until 1970. I have no idea. I guess I will have to ask my two sisters who graduated after I did. We hadn't talked about it. Most of those of us who went to the old highschool 'loved' it, I think, and have happy memories of traipsing up and down the halls. I have not been in the school since 1960, but oftentimes I dream at night of being there, where the classrooms were, the teachers, the fun-times we had. When we started highschool there in 1956, the top floor was used only for a biology class and storage. It seems like I've heard that at least part of the building was condemned even back then. When we go back past the campus, it sure looks strange to not see the old familiar building. But, home is where the heart is..

Query posted by Thompson, Eddene Hightower on September 10, 2005 for , TODD, BROADDUS, OLDHAM

Hello, I am sorry to hear of the passing of your grandmother. My own passed in 1985, but I still terribly miss her. About your ancestor, Lee Todd== I have a Lee Todd in my family tree program database that was married to Eva Broaddus and they had two sons, Robert and Clarence. I have no dates on any of them and the research was not mine, but it does contain the ancestry of Eva, courtesy of Jan Oldham who shared the Oldham, etc., family tree years ago. The Oldham name is thought to be one of my allied lines. This Eva Broaddus was the daughter of Jeremiah Broaddus and his wife, Juliet Oldham. If this is your family, I would be glad to share the info with you via gedcom, etc. Just let me know. I was born and raised in Vinita, have done family research since 1972, have a very large database that includes many, many people of Craig county, northeast OK and elsewhere. I do not reserch for hire, do not publish my works, do not sell my works.. basically it is to find people and link them altogether. I love the detective work and the achievement of linking all families together.

First Grade Class, 1948-1949, Riverside Elementary School, Vinita, OK   738

Query posted by Thompson, Eddene Hightower on September 10, 2005 for SCHOOL

Hello, I just thought that I would share a photo of the First Grade Class of Riverside Elementary School of Vinita, OK for the year of 1948-1949. The teacher was Miss Ona Christian. Most all of these children remained in the Vinita school systerm. I am adding both the picture and the list of names as written on the back. I have two copies of the pictures. My mother, Eunice Sarah (Swift) Hightower was one of the home room mothers each year that me and my siblings went there and is still living just a block north of the school at age 87. Our family has many fond memories of the school, it's teachers and the kids who went there. If you want a jpeg file of the pictures just let me know and I can email them.

I have only three volumes indexed and online, but she has over 14 more three-ring notesbooks, each about 200 pages, full of obits waiting for me to index. We also have an index to a notebook on weddings and one on anniversaries. This is the link to my freepages on Rootsweb where the indexes are located:

I have one section that are obits that I have already typed up for people in the past. More recently, people are used to accepting scanned jpeg files of the obits.

Query posted by Thompson, Eddene Hightower on September 11, 2005

Hello, When you read the letter that I wrote and to which I attached the pictures, at the bottom of the letter there should be the word ATTACHMENTS and below it two links in colors that describes what the picture is going to be. When I click on either of them, my Internet Explorer Browser automatically opens up the picture in a new window. If you don't see the two links on the same screen window as the letter then I don't know what could be wrong. Let me know if it doesn't work. I don't know what I can do, but I hope you can open them.

Hello, I am glad that you saw the photo and could open it. I didn't do anything special except to upload the photo via the webpage's instructions. I just wanted everyone to enjoy it as I have enjoyed it. I remember the day that they took it, well, I remember the 'experience' and not 'what day' it was.
I don't remember anything about Miss/Mrs. Christian after my first grade, but my mother used to remember that she moved on to Tulsa, she thought. I don't know if she was a local person or not. The other teachers at Riverside that were there for a long period of time were: Second grade.. Minnie Hannebohn, sister to Fourth Grade teacher and the principal, Mrs. Wright, and not to leave out our precious Third grade teacher who could 'say the alphabet backwards' faster than we could say it 'forwards'... Margaret Lightfoot. We had one janitor for a long time but I can't remember his name. At least for the first few years that I was there, the children were separated on the playground with the boys being on the west side of the playground and the girls on the east. A lot of us have good memories of times at Riverside.
