I was searching the net to find anything about the history of my family, i stumbled across this message board containing the name of my great great grandfather. I am fairly sure this is him you are speaking of because i know he was an U.S. Deputy Marshal of Indian Territory. If you have any questions just e-mail me.

Rogers and Prather Families 515
|
Query posted by Jwstreak on April 18, 2003
for , ROGERS, TEAS, PRATHER
|
I need any information on the following line: William Rogers and Chassey/Chacey/Chasey Jones both born in North Carolina and then moved to Hickman later Humphreys County Tennessee. He died on 1828/1829 and she died in 1852. They had a son Pleasant Rogers who first married Sarah Spicer from Hickman County later Humphreys County. The children from this marriage were: Jasper Berry Rogers, Pherrell Vincent Rogers (my line), George W. Rogers and Chacy Jane Rogers who married W. H. Peck. When Sarah died he married Pheobe Hickman from Obion County Tenessee. They had the following children: Edie Caroline Rogers who married Robert Prather in Obion County Tennessee in th early 1830's, and several other children. She moved to Missouri and the children moved to Oklahoma and Texas. I have a clear and unconfused line from William to his children and grandchildren. I have the Hickman line, Teas line and Rogers line. I have my data base well documented with a letter from Edie Caroline in Vinita Oklahoma to my Great GrandFather requesting $550 for a visit from her to his home in Tennessee. I only want well documented, well researched material. I understand some confusion on this line but I am not confused and would welcome any changes if supporting documents are forth coming. I have several contacts within this line who have the same material all independent of one another and the same conclusions were drawn. I feel the only answer should be the truth and would be willing to change my line if it can be proven. John Thomas

I am going to place on this site the complete history of the Rogers family as I have found it. This history is derived from Bible records, census records, wills, county histories and information from other members who have researched this line. I welcome any corrections that can be proven by official documents and not memories taken years after the event. I have been unable to find the parents of William Rogers and Chacey/ Chasey/ Chassey Jones. I have some hunches but until I can verify these with official documents, they will remain hunches. I feel they were connected to the Thomas and Charity Rogers family of Halifax County, North Carolina. They had children named: William, John, Shadrack, Pleasant and Randolph. If any one has any information concerning: 1.) the dates and location of the marriage of William and Chacey, 2.) the family of Thomas Rogers especially his siblings and 3.) the history of any children of William and Chacey that I do not have, I would welcome the data. I am willing to correct any information when you can officially document these changes by records and not the sworn affidavits based on memories of people long after the fact.

There is no such marriage between July1902 and Dec. 1907 in the Northern Dist. (there was no Craig county before Nov. 1907) You will have to check at Muskogee for earlier marriages.

Thank you for the info, but why Muskogee ? Is that where people got married in that area back in 1901 ? What about Indian Territory ( where Chelsea is now ) where did they marry ? Sorry for all the questions but I'm new at searching that area. Thank you again: Glenda

Before July 1902 when the Northern Judical Dist. Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory was established at Vinita, marriages were recorded at Muskogee. That did not mean the couple were married at Muskogee. They could have married anywhere in the Cherokee Nation. Suggest you check for some of the on-line maps of the old Indian Territory, especially the Cherokee Nation to give yourself an idea of the layout of the districts both political and judicial. Research here can get crazy sometimes.

Maxine R. Stribling was buried 2-1-73. You will have to write to the local funeral homes to find any more information. Be sure to explain your connection to her as all funeral homes have to know as so much problem has developed with identity theft. Send a SASE with your question.
